shop store locations our story how do you Shoe care faq catalog

While no shoe lasts a lifetime, with proper care and periodic repair, Birkenstocks canprovide you with years of comfort. Here are some tips to keep your footwear looking good for years to come:

Smooth and Oiled Leather Uppers
Use leather cleaner to remove dust and dirt; use leather conditioner to keep the leather supple and maintain the lustre; use shoe cream to add color and renew a dull finish.

Suede and Nubuck Uppers
Use a brush (a bristle brush and not a steel brush) and block regularly, to prevent buildup of plaque from dust and water mixing; stainproof to prevent stains from setting in (use a silicone free spray....to prevent color change, texture change, and insure breathability!); use leather cleaner for deep stains; and suede renew to recolor those dark colors bleached out by the sun or excess road salt.

The Footbed
Keep your footbeds from develping an unpleasant odor; brush them regularly with a bristle brush, and clean them periodically with Birkenstock Footbed cleaner.

Footprints Shoes
Use the above information depending on the materials of your shoe; and use genuine, Birkenstock Cedar shoe trees, which are that special oblique shape of your shoes. They will draw moisture away from your footwear keeping them smelling fresh as well as preventing, premature wrinkling and folding of leather uppers.

Avoid Extreme Heat
If your Birkenstocks have cork footbeds, both the cork and the soles of Birkenstock footwear can be damaged by exposure to concentrated heat. Do not leave your shoes in closed cars on warm days and keep them away from radiators and fireplaces. IF your shoes become wet, allow them to dry slowly, away from direct heat.
Apply Cork Sealant
Birkenstocks with cork footbeds come with a light coating of cork sealant which prevents them from drying out. When the cork no longer looks shiny, apply a thin coat of Birkenstock Cork Life. This is available in the Steppin Birkenstock online catalog.
Renew or Replace Worn Soles
Prolong the life of your cork sandals with Birkenstock heal and toe taps. The should be applied when the soles have been worn down to about 1/4 inch. When the soles are worn in more than this, the soles can be replaced. If your soles tend to wear unevenly, repair them promptly to ensure that your feet will remain correctly balanced. Be sure to use only original Birkenstock repair materials. Steppin' Birkenstock Shoes happily offers Birkenstock repair services.
