Materials

Birkenstock uses the highest quality leathers available for lasting durability. We start with the thickest hides in the show industry, almost 1/8" (3mm), and dye them all the way through for color that stands the test of time.

smooth

Smooth Leather
All styles denoted simply as "leather" have this classic smooth finish.

suede

Suede
Chosen from select hides, this soft, thick-napped leather is exceptionally comfortable.

nubuck

Nubuck
Quality leather that's buffed for a soft and velvety finish.

waxy

Waxy
A waxy finish is applied to buffed leather resulting in this fashionable, distressed look.

Embossed

Embossed
Nubuck and smooth leather are embossed with special patterns

Birko-Flor
A durable acrylic and polyamide felt fiber material with a smooth leather-like finish.

Birkibuc

Birkibuc
Made of the same Birki-Flor material, Birkibuc offers a textured finish that looks and feels like soft, velvety nubuck.

Birko-Felt

Microfiber
Soft synthetic durable material with suede-like finish.

Birko-Felt

Polyurethane
Water/stain-resistant material used to create our Birki® Clogs and some of our soles.

Birko-Felt

EVA (Ethyl Vinyl Acetate)
Water/stain-resistant and softer and lighter than polyurethane.
